Carson Street School P&C 2011

Posted by: carsonstpc on: January 3, 2011

2011 looks like it’s going to be a busy one for the P&C. We need to start by welcoming in the new Committee:

President:Liz Green,Vice president: Rinto Sulong, Treasurer: Vanessa Murdoch, Secretary: Jenny Clifton, Committee:Sandra Labiche, Sally Dechouw.

The main focus for the year will be fundraising for outdoor equipment for our kids. Deputy Ros Hamling has formed a committee to start planning for this. This will be a long term plan as each piece of equipment costs in excess of $10,000 as it is specially designed to cater to our childrens special needs and abililities and to hopefully encourage those that are not so keen on participating in activities to join in.

Some of last years funds left over from the Quiz Night will go towards this equipment. We have also been given the opportunity to participate in the selling of a registered raffle run by the Disabled Childrens’s fund. The great benefit of this raffle is that for every $3.00 ticket sold, $2.00 comes back directly to the school. This should occur sometime in March.

Again we will be holding our famous Quiz Night at the Belmont Sports and Recreation Centre on Saturday 3rd September 2011. Closer to the date we will be looking for donations and sponsorship from the school  families and wider community.

In the meantime, we will be looking at applying for any Grants available to try and get some of this equipment purchased so our kids can get the maximum benefit in the shortest amount of time.

Lastly, I just want to personally thank all the wonderful parents and staff of Carson Street School for all their support in 2010. For all the donations for raffles, buying tickets, Quiz Night support etc , Without your help the P&C wouldn’t be able to do half the things that it does.

Now that the school holidays are over, we are well under way with the planning of our Annual Quiz Night. This year it will be held on Saturday 11th September at the Belmont Sports and Recreation Centre, Abernethy Road, Belmont. Tables of 8 are available, $10.00 per person. BYO supper/nibblies. Bar facilities available.

This year we have again been lucky enough to secure the services of Darryll Ashworth’s staff at Metier Consulting, who will be helping to source prizes. We will have the wonderful Mr Garry Underhill as our Quiz Master and Mr Tim Shoenmakers as our talented Auctioneer. Throughout the night there will be lots of games, raffles and prizes.

Anyone interested in booking a table, or wanting more information, can contact the school on (09) 9361-7500 or ph: Liz Green (09) 9291-7290 or email bgr13990@bigpond.net.au.

July 2009,

Well, now the school holidays are over, the P & C and school community are busy organising our Annual Quiz Night. This is our major fundraiser for the year.We hope to raise enough money to continue funding, in partnership with the school, extra speech therapy services, computer touch screens and outdoor equipment. As you can imagine, our children’s needs are great and the additional services and modified equipment cost a lot of money.

Again, we have been lucky enough to have the services of Metier Consulting, who are helping with the collection of prizes for the Quiz Night. So far we have some fantastic items for prizes, raffles and games. This year we are hoping to get more support from the parents in the donation of prizes and have also looked to the wider community for help. Given the economic climate at the moment, we have been very fortunate with the generosity that has been shown so far.

This year the Quiz Night will be held on Saturday 22nd August, at the Belmont Sports and Recreation Centre, who have very kindly donated the use of their venue for the evening. As with last year, there will be tables of eight, $10.00 per person, BYO supper and bar facilities will be available. Bookings can be made by contacting the school on 9361-7500 or Liz Green on 9291-7290.

Coming Events: P & C meeting Friday 7th August. The main agenda item will be to finalise details for the Quiz Night.

September: Father’s Day Raffle – details to follow.

The P & C had a very productive year in 2008.

We started off by purchasing for the school some musical instruments, sensory equipment, a computer Touch Screen and a laminator.

We fundraised through our regular raffles for Mother’s and Father’s Day and of course, Easter.

Our major fundraiser was our Quiz Night. Thanks again to Metier Consulting who, through their contacts, obtained some fantastic prizes. We also need to thank the hard-working staff and parents who helped out with the setting up and all the many jobs on the night. We raised a total of just over $11,000.00.

A large proportion of this money will be used in a joint project with the school to help fund a specialist Speech Therapist who will work with the children and staff to implement strategies and achieve greater outcomes.

Part of the P & C’s Building Fund was used to outfit the new Conductive Education and Therapy Focus rooms with blinds and to provide a covered walkway from the main school to the CE rooms. This should be completed by February 2009.

This year, P & C membership forms were sent home with the book lists. We are hoping to increase our numbers though we do realise that everyone is busy and can’t always attend the meetings but  we do value your ideas and suggestions.

Coming events:

Feb’:   Family BBQ ; March: P & C AGM; April: Easter raffle; August 22nd: Quiz Night.

Finally, we need to acknowledge and thank Mr. John Exeter for his commitment and support of the P & C and for always being available to attend meetings, despite his busy schedule.

We look forward to a great year in 2009 and thank all the families for their support.
